Christaan surprised Janine with a proposal straight out of a romantic movie - indoor picnic, candles, music and even a projector showing photos of their adventure together.
We here at A Fine Day just loved the romantic feel their wedding had with so much love and attention going into their décor - from the handmade jam guest favours to the beautiful decorated tins and jars that adorned succulents.
Janine had nothing but praise for all her suppliers and we can see why!
How did he propose?
Christiaan decided to move to East London at the end of 2016 so that we could be together. He proposed in his new house and surprised me with an indoor picnic. He had a projector up with music and photos of our adventure since we met. Flowers and candles around us and on the floor he spelt out the words 'Will you marry me?'
It was so unexpected! I thought he was just going to show me his house. I missed everything walking in and only saw it when he smiled and got down on one knee. I said yes of course!
What was the theme of your wedding and why?
We chose a Rustic/Minimalist theme. I love the look of rustic old barns and everything that is mismatched, it brings out that old romantic feeling. We chose proteas as our wedding flowers and tried to match the protea colours throughout our décor. An aunt made jam for us as gifts to our guests and my sister helped to decorate the jam jars.
We loved the Blue Barn setting as it had everything we were looking for. Steph and her family from The Blue Barn were so helpful and did an amazing job making our wedding day special for us.
Tell us about your décor
Sticking with the rustic theme, our décor consisted of hessian runners and doilies as placemats. We made our own name tags and printed a photo of our engagement on a big canvas on which we displayed our seating plan.
We encouraged guests to write their messages on the canvas so that we could hang in in our home and be reminded of this special day. Proteas were placed in their own Consol jam jars, succulents in rusted tins covered with hessian and a special protea stencil and fairy lights in big Consol jam jars. These all featured as centrepieces.
What was the highlight of your day?
We loved spending time with all of our guests that had come from far to share our special day. We loved the food that The Blue Barn had made. Especially the desert as Janine has a sweet tooth and the cake that they made tasted so amazing!
Our MC. a lifelong friend of Christiaan had amazing stories to tell. He came from very far and sang a special song to bless us, doing more than was expected of him made it very special as well.

My bridesmaid was my sister Lisa. We are 2 years apart, she is my best friend and my partner in crime and I could not think of anyone better to have by my side than her. She wore a plum dress to fit in with the protea theme.
Christiaan's best man was Francois. They are best friends and worked together at his previous school in Queenstown. They wore navy pants with suspenders with white shirts and wooden bow ties and sandstone 'Vellies'.
